What should my attributes be?
The Attributes (Stats) you choose vary depending on what kind of an character you are planning to make. Here we have some usual Character types:
Mage
40 strength
10 dexterity
30 intelligence
Warrior (Swords/maces)
49 strength
20 dexterity
11 intelligence
Warrior (Spears)
30 strength
39 dexterity
11 intelligence
Crafter
59 strength
10 dexterity
11 intelligence
As you probably have noticed, all the characters start with 11 or more intelligence. This gives you a good base of 11 mana. And 11 mana is the ammount you need to cast one of the most powerfull spells in the game: recall.
Recall is a way of teleporting in the game from 1 place to another, for example from Yew to Britain in second, instead of running for an hour. But more of this later.
Mages naturally need mana and mana is obtained from intelligence. 30 INT (intelligence) gives you a good mana base, and allows you to pretty easily cast spells even at the beginning. Well the spells you have enough skill to cast.
Warriors with Swords or Maces basicly don't need mana, but 11 INT is enought to cast recall, if you wish to add magery for you character.
Warriors that use Spear need to be fast. And dexterity is the key to swing fast. This why, you should start a spearsman with high DEX. This very high dexterity has given that kind of characters a nickname: Dexxers.
Crafters are a peacefull "class". They usually dont fight, so they don't need to hit fast. the High STR (strength) makes em strong, so they can carry lots of wood or ore at once. that DEX of 11 is for the case you wish to learn magery -skills to travel easily using Recall.
All the stats get up very easily (Note: Stats gain slow on T2A shard). STR and DEX as you kill monster and INT as you cast spells.
It wont take long as you have good stats, so the starting stats don't matter that much later in game.

What skills should I select?
This is where most new players get confused. So much to choose from. You should remember, that you have 100 skillpoints to spend at the beginning, and you can choose 3 skills to aplly them to.
BUT there is some tricks. As you can buy all the skills up to 30 for a small sum of money from a NPC (Non Player Character), there is no point of starting with a skill at 30 or lower.
You should do it like this:
Skill #1 : 50 (This is your primary skill. Choose magery if you wish to be a mage, stealing if you wish to be a thief and so on)
Skill #2 : 49 (This skill is to support you primary skill. What you should choose depends on what you choose as a primary skill)
Skill #3 : 1 (This is a "itemskill". Choose a skill that gives you a good newbied item. a crafter for example, would take tailorin, as it gives you newbied scissors. This meanin that you keep them even if you die)
Good "itemskills" are: Tailoring (scissors), Healing (bandages), magery (reagents), alchemy (reagents), lumberjacking (axe).

What first two skills should I get?
Here are some fighting combinations:
Warrior: Tactics 50, Mace Fighting/Swordsmanship/Fencing 49
Mage: Resist Spells 50, Magery 49
Thief: Snooping 50, Stealing 49
Archer: Tactics 50, Archery 49
Animal Tamer: Animal Taming 50, veterinary 49
And here a set of crafting combinations:
Blacksmith: Blacksmithy 50, Mining 49
Tinker: Blacksmithing 50, Mining 40, Tinkering 10
Woodsman: Bowyercraft/Carpentry 50, Lumberjacking 49
You need mining to support blacksmithing, as mining is the skill used to dig ore and smelt the ore for iron ingots.
For a bowyer/carpenter you need lumberjacking to obtain wood.
The fighter should start in the city of Britain, but a crafter should start in the town of Minoc. It has a big mountain to mine from and is surrounded by large forests. A perfect place for a young crafter.
Hint: There are some skills not to choose as primary or secondary skills, as they are very easy to raise. You can GM (100.0 skill) these in an hour or 2:
Snooping, Evaluation intelligence, Anatomy, Animal Lore, Item Idetification. (Note: These skills raise slower on the T2A shard)
